1st ANNIVERSARY: Europages adds European Business Directory functionality to Eceurope.com

One year ago, EUROPAGES and Worldbid have partnered together to bring The European Business Directory to Eceurope.com members. A successful new tool in the Eceurope.com marketplace, the EUROPAGES business directory has already been used more than 113,000 times by Eceurope members searching companies or products.

The European Business Directory was originally created from cooperation among national Yellow Pages publishers in Europe, and aimed at boosting cross-border trade within the EC.

EUROPAGES publishes a yearly selection of 500,000 European suppliers and active exporters from 33 countries. These businesses benefit from Europages' widespread circulation to Advertise their products (one million copies are sent each year to purchasing managers Europe-wide).

Directories are among the most cost-effective methods of business advertising - Click here to find out more.

Meeting on retaliation to Byrd amendment delayed

A special dispute settlement (DSB) has been called by a number of countries who feel that the Byrd amendment in the United States amounts to an unfair subsidy. Named after US Senator Robert Byrd, the legislation allows US companies to claim money collected as antidumping or countervailing duty orders on foreign imports.

A WTO ruling found that the amendment was a "non-permissible specific action against dumping or subsidy". The DSB has been delayed because of differences over the amount with which to retaliate. Some countries agreed on a figure of 700 millionUSD.

The complaining countries are Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, EC, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Mexico and Thailand.

ATC Carnet permits duty-free and tax-free import of goods for up to one year

The ATA carnet is an international customs document that permits duty-free and tax-free temporary import of goods for up to one year. The ATA Carnet system is run by the World ATA Carnet Council (WATAC) that in turn operates within ICC World Chambers Federation.

Commercial samples, professional equipment and presentation goods (trade fairs, exhibitions, etc) are all covered within the ATA Carnet. Sales representatives and people with professional equipment are the most frequent users. The system is in place to allow business people to freely move among the 58 member countries and territories with their necessary supplies and equipment. Perishables and food items are often not covered.
